Amid escalating tensions in southern Lebanon, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have reportedly discovered an underground weapons storage facility, located approximately seven meters beneath a residential building in a small village. The discovery was part of ongoing military operations aimed at targeting Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the region.
The IDF’s Paratroopers Brigade has been conducting a series of raids based on intelligence reports, often encountering Hezbollah operatives in residential areas converted into military compounds. During one such raid, the Paratroopers engaged in a close-quarters firefight with a Hezbollah cell inside a fortified building.
The confrontation, which involved air support from the Israel Air Force (IAF), resulted in the death of several Hezbollah fighters. The battle also claimed the life of Captain Ben Zion Falach, an IDF squad commander.
The militants’ positions were reportedly identified with the help of real-time drone intelligence, leading to airstrikes and direct combat within the building. One fighter was killed inside the compound.
Following the skirmish, IDF forces discovered a large underground weapons cache beneath one of the homes involved in the conflict.

The cache allegedly contained a variety of arms, including sniper rifles and other equipment intended for long-range attacks. The discovery points to Hezbollah’s use of civilian infrastructure to store military assets, a tactic that complicates efforts to avoid civilian harm in the conflict.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalated last month, with Israel vowing to dismantle the Iran-backed group. Apart from airstrikes in Lebanon, Israel has carried out a string of assassinations of top Hezbollah leaders and the Israeli military has also been carrying out localised ground operations in the southern Lebanon.
